How Effective and Safe are Air Tasers?

The fact that a self-defense product needs to be effective is the primary concern. The Taser matches and surpasses the handgun effectiveness with an 86% instant incapacitation rate compared to 72% for a handgun. However, this also includes the fact that people on PCP won't feel pain and are known for their capability to absorb bullets without being phased. Therefore, the Los Angeles Police chooses to use the Taser on all PCP and mentally deranged individuals due to the effectiveness.
The electrical signal that penetrates the nervous system no matter where the probes are placed is what makes Taser technology so effective. The Air Taser uses the neural net which covers the entire human body in order to knock out a target. The probes also don't have to penetrate flesh or cause bodily harm to be effective since the T-Waves can penetrate up to two inches of clothing. A bullet needs to hit a vital organ such as the heart or brain in order to be instantly effective. Chemical sprays like pepper spray or Mace also need to hit the attacker in the face directly to be effective which can be difficult in confrontations in which everyone is moving rapidly.
Compared to other self-defense technologies the Air Taser can be used more effectively and with less training. However, keep in mind that despite the effectiveness you are by no means invincible. Being cautious and aware of your surroundings is the best protection. There is always the chance that you won't be able to use your Air Taser in time or that you can't completely incapacitate your attacker. So you need to use your Air Taser cautiously and wisely in order to avoid situations where you will be required to use it. Using your head is the best self-defense tool you have.
When it comes to animals their nervous systems are very different from humans. Therefore, the Air Taser is only designed to be effective on humans. So you cannot use it to incapacitate an animal like it will a human being. So don't use the Air Taser as a means of protection from wild, uncontrollable or attacking animals.
The Safety Record
The Taser doesn't need to cause bodily injury in order to be effective since it jams the communication system of the body. The output of power on the Taser is similar to that of a Christmas tree light. It is effective because of the nature of the signaling effect that happens in the nervous system. Safe electrical exposure is indicated by the shaded area of a 2 year old and that of a 75 year old. The Air Taser output is about 1/1,000th of the dangerous level as you will notice on the graph.
Studies have also been done to prove there is no long term effects from being hit with a Taser. In addition to the non-lethal status of the Taser it leaves no long term injuries as was found by a study done at the University of Southern California Medical Center. This date is quite favorable when considered along with a study on the .38 Special handgun. For the .38 Special only fifty percent of those shot actually survived and of the survivors all had permanent injuries. The heart is not affected by the output of the Taser as tests have proven. If fact the heart of a test animal received a direct application of the Taser output with no harmful effects. Also a Taser output will not affect an implanted pacemaker since all modern pacemakers can withstand a pulse from electrical defibrillators which are hundreds of times stronger than anything a Taser can produce.
