Usage Information About Your Air Taser
How To Prepare the Unit and Insert the Battery
Eight standard AA alkaline batteries are used to run the Advanced Taser. Testing shows that the Energizer battery is the best option. Make sure the safety is in the safe position before installing the batteries and that the unit is unloaded. Simply press the battery cover lock pin with a handcuff key or pen and then slide the cover forward, out of the handle in order to load the batteries. Take the battery magazine from the handle.
The special design of the battery magazine has springs at both ends. This means you get better battery performance. Follow the picture found inside the magazine bay for orientation when loading the batteries. You should first load the batteries towards the springs show in the photo below, forming a V, then push the batteries together so that they are in place.
Reinsert the magazine after loading the batteries and make sure the contacts on the top of the magazine are properly aligned with the contacts on the inside of the unit. Unless inserted correctly the magazine won't load fully. Then when holding the magazine in place with your thumb you should slide the cover back into place. To allow the cover to slide over it you will have to press the cover lock again. You can then test to make sure it is activated correctly with the battery checkers after the batteries are in place.
Just remember the unit is live after the safety is armed so you should be careful. Until reading further never press the trigger switch. Point the unit in a safe direction away from people to activate the battery checker by flip up the safety. You will see a flashing red light on the back of the unit just above the data port if the batteries are in place correctly.
Proper Way To Hold The Air Taser
1. Unless the Safety Slide is forward you want to keep your fingers away from the front of the unit, this is the locked position and is indicated by the flashing heartbeat light being out. Never place you finger within the shaded area shown on the illustration or attempt to remove the Air Cartridge without the Safety Slide in the locked position. Whenever the unit is firing this area emits T-Waves so you will get stunned if you are touching this area. Before removing Air Cartridges or touching a loaded cartridge you need to have the Safety Slide in the forward, locked position.
2. First test fire the unit without the Air Cartridge in place. The unit should be unloaded as indicated in the photo below. The unit will function as a Stun Gun if there is no Air Cartridge in it.
To demonstrate the stun gun option:
A. Have your fingers away from the front area when holding the unit. Slide the safety back. Remember the unit will fire for thirty seconds automatically when you press the trigger switch unless you slide the safety forward to turn it off. The Taser Waves make a loud sound so do not become alarmed and drop the unit into your lap. During the thirty second cycle you will notice several pauses. Even during these pauses remember that the unit is still live and can come back on for the complete thirty seconds if you don't lock the safety slide forward to turn it off completely.
Press the trigger switch next. Then push the safety slide forward to turn the unit off. You should turn the unit off after it has fired for a second or two. The battery will be quickly depleted if you allow it to run for the entire timing cycle.
Loading Air Cartridges
Always remember that once the Air Taser is loaded it can fire the probes with the touch of the trigger switch unless you have the safety slide in the off position. Therefore, treat the unit carefully. Unless using it for self-defense don't point it at a person. It is easy to load and unload the Air Cartridges. Simply take the cartridge and snap it onto the front of the unit to load. There is no up or down position to the cartridge so that you can easily reload in a stressful situation without the need to worry about getting it wrong. The top surface should be level and parallel to the ground when you hold it. By tilting the unit you can cause the bottom probe to miss its target. The bottom probe is also slightly downward so if you use the Air Taser at an angle it will fire off to the side resulting in a miss.
To unload the air cartridge you first need to make sure you have the safety slide forward or in the locked position. You will be stunned by the device on the front if you touch the air cartridge while the unit is firing. Simply squeeze on the two round release buttons on the side of the cartridge and pull out once the safety slide is forward. Now you can quickly reload a new cartridge. This is how simple it is. The cartridge contains all the probes, compressed air and Taser wire needed, so you just have to change the cartridge in order for the unit ot be ready to fire. Also you should try to open a cartridge prior to firing since they are designed to only be fired by the power handle and you can cause it to fire if you tamper with the live air cartridge.
Practice Firing
1. You should have your target set up in a location where there isn't a hard object. A firing range is the best choice but you can also use a cardboard or a dry wall area. You should have metal object behind the target or near it since this could cause the probes to bounce off.
2. Practice judging a fifteen feet distance. This can be further than you may think. Measure out fifteen feet from the target with a tape measure. You may not be able to get this far in most rooms since it is the length of a full sized Cadillac. You will find that fifteen feet is far enough to keep your attacker away from you. You should also know your limits so that you don't fire at a target that is beyond fifteen feet away. Seven to ten feet is the optimum range for the Air Taser. For best results you should try to fire when the target is between these distances. Seven feet is best during practice since this is the average distance that police use when firing their guns. Take two or three large paces back from the target. Always try to fire your Air Taser from at least three feet during a real confrontation. You can use the Air Taser from zero to fifteen feet but you want to give the probes a little room to spread apart after they are released. Therefore, three feet away is the best practice distance.
3. When firing the Air Taser be sure to keep it level. You shouldn't fire the unit sideways. You want the line of sight indicator to be on top when firing. Two probes are fired from the unit. The first probe will go directly to where you are aiming, preferably the center of the chest. The other probe is aimed down slightly so that the probes will spread apart when released. This way the T-waves can go into a greater area of the target, making them more effective. The bottom dart will be misdirected if you tilt the Air Taser.

4. Holding the unit in front of you comfortably is the most important part when it comes to aiming the Air Taser. The top line should be level to the ground with your elbow slightly bent at chest level when holding the Air Taser. You will have a tendency to aim too high if you hold the unit out straight from the shoulder. Rather you want to aim the Air Taser as you would a flashlight. Where you are pointing is emphasized by the red arrow or line of sight indicator on the top, but don't focus on this arrow or try to use it as a gun sight. Rather use it as an aide to visualize where you are pointing the unit. Aim for the center of the chest when practicing. Someone should stand too the side as you aim the Air Taser so that they can determine if you are aiming correctly and offer tips to help you improve your accuracy. The top line of the Air Taser can also help you to determine how high you are aiming since it is level to the line of fire.
5. Finally you can pull back on the safety slide. You will notice the flashing red light that tells you the unit has been armed. Gently press the trigger switch after aiming at the center of the target. You will have a popping sound with no recoil since there is no kick from the Air Taser when you fire. You can then see the T-Waves on the surface of your practice target. In a real confrontation you won't be able to see the T-Waves since they will be absorbed by the targets body. Normally at this time you would want to put the unit down and leave the area if it were a real confrontation. Then you can slide the safety forward and remove the Air Cartridge. Always remember to keep your fingers away from the front unless you have the safety slide in the forward locked position. Don't try to remove the yellow blow off doors of the Air Cartridge. Using the Air Taser
1. Slide the safety back to arm the device. You should arm the unit whenever you find yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. By arming the unit you will also activate the battery check which will tell you if the batter is good. If the light doesn't come on then you will need to replace the battery as soon as possible. However, the unit is still armed, it just means it has fallen below the recommended power level. The unit is read to fire after the safety has been pulled back so you should be careful not to push the trigger switch unless you truly want to fire the unit.
2. Aim for center chest just like with you point a flashlight. This is the most effective and easiest place you can hit. Don't allow your attacker to get too close. Fire when your attacker gets within ten feet or you feel you are being physically threatened. Just remember that the Air Taser is based on a point and shoot system which means it shouldn't be aimed like a gun.
3. Fire the unit by pressing down on the trigger switch to release the probes.
4. Place the Air Taser on the ground gently and leave as quickly as possible once the attacker is on the ground and there are no other attackers. Don't drop the unit however since this can cause injury to the unit. Law enforcement professionals will disarm and restrain a suspect when the unit is still active. For a full thirty seconds the unit will continue to stun the attacker and after that the person will require one to thirty minutes to recover. It is best to leave and let the unit do its work in self-defense situations. Never attempt to retrieve the unit, upon receipt of a police report, Taser International Inc, will replace your unit free of charge.
5. Hold the unit firmly and get ready to use it as a stun gun if your attacker doesn’t go down or if you are faced with more than one attacker. You may need to use the stun gun feature to defend yourself if for some reason the attacker isn't down completely. The Air Taser will function as a stun gun even when you have the Air Cartridge in place. Press down on the trigger switch with the safety slide back to make sure the unit is active. Then press the front of the unit firmly against your attacker to use the stun gun. Whether the cartridge is in or not, it doesn't matter, it will still work as a stun gun. The metal prongs on the front of the unit will deliver T-waves even if the cartridge isn't in place. The diagram below shows the most effective places to use a stun gun. Also the video can instruct you on how to aim for the upper leg since it can be a good place when you are grabbed from behind. Attempt to press the Air Taser into the center of the chest if you are attacked from the front or you can also press against the nerves under the chin. Remember you cannot be harmed by the T-waves even if the attacker is touching you. The T-waves only travel directly between the two probes.
A Quick Review of Using The Unit
Slide the safety back to arm the device. You should always attempt to aim for the chest. To fire the probes simply press down the trigger switch. Set the unit on the ground and head for help once there are no more attackers and the attacker is on the ground. Prepare to use the unit as a stun gun when there are multiple attackers or if your attacker isn't down on the ground. With or without the air cartridge you can still use the unit as a stun gun.
To Practice The Stun Gun Feature
1. Hold the unit so that your fingers are away from the front area.
2. Slide the safety into the armed position. Remember the unit fires for five seconds automatically when you press the trigger and won't stop unless the safety is flipped down to turn it off.
3. Press the trigger.
4. Turn the Advanced Taser off by flipping down the safety. It is best to turn the unit off after firing for a second or two since any longer will deplete the batteries when you don't really need to.
